Ta’ Qali Craft Village

Last time I was in Malta, my in-laws took me to Ta’ Qali knowing how much I enjoy visiting artisans. At that time, the craft village was largely deserted, with the exception of Mdina Glass. A highlight of the trip was watching the glass blowers make intricate designs from flaming hot glass, then using the ovens to heat their sandwiches for lunch.

This time, 13 years later, Ta’ Qali was still clearly a work in progress but there were more artisans making jewellery from gems, carving beautiful sculptures and bowls from olive wood, and creating colourful pottery. Again, Mdina Glass did not disappoint! The boys were fascinated by the glass blowers plying their trade.

Our visit to Ta’ Qali was book-ended with some homeschooling in the morning and relaxation in the late afternoon. The boys grumbled about their school work on the first day, but I feel we are getting into the swing of things now. When we got home, the adults sat out on the balcony with a glass of wine overlooking the Mediterranean, a ritual we have taken to doing every day just before dinner. Tomorrow we are off to Gozo on the ferry.
