Sarah & Ashlyn Arrived!

Five weeks into our adventure, Sarah and Ashlyn arrived to join us for a week.  It was a bit of an adventure getting here.  It was discovered mid week, by chance, that Ashlyn left her passport in Ottawa, and she couldn’t fly without it.  Luckily, Ashlyn’s boyfriend was in Ottawa and able to pick it up and drive it halfway to Belleville where Sarah (driving from Toronto) would meet him.  Then, their flight to Munich was 2.5 hours late leaving Toronto, and they missed their connecting flight to Malta.  But luck struck again, and they were able to get onto the next flight to Malta, arriving only 2.5 hours later than their original planned arrival.

Jet lagged, they decided to still join us for a party arranged for us by my Uncle Charlie’s family that same evening.  I met some of my cousins for the first time in 13 years and all of our kids have changed/grown significantly since.  This was the first time they’ve met Sean and the first for us meeting some of their young kids.  The party was fun, there was plenty of good food, and we (meaning, Sarah & Ashlyn) were able to last till 11:30pm by which time it was time to get them home for some badly needed sleep.

We awoke Sunday in a lazy mood and decided to stay close to Mellieha…and what better place to waste the day than at the beach. The beach was filling up by 10am so we packed some towels and walked over.

In the evening, we were invited to Aunt Gemma’s for home made ravioli.  As Sean often says, “don’t ask me to choose between ravioli and pastizzi, because I can’t!”  Suffice to say, ravioli is a family favorite so this was a meal we were all looking forward to.  Besides, we spent more time with my aunts and uncles.

Monday, we headed to Greece, but we had a late afternoon flight so we spent a few hours in Valetta, taking in some of the scenes that Sarah and Ashlyn haven’t seen for some years, grabbed some lunch, and then we headed for the airport.

  1. Just amazing. Glad they arrived safe and sound. Can’t wait to see the pics of Greece and hear all about your adventures.
